Healing Through Movement and Stillness

Margie KrestMy journey into yoga and meditation began in 2002, soon after I experienced the trauma of multiple deaths of friends and family and went into chronic body pain. Early in my practice, I realized that my body was very wise; it held the emotional pain that I wasn’t yet able to acknowledge consciously. Over time, as I sat in meditation and moved into gentle yoga poses, my heart began to open, my emotional awareness increased and my pain lessened.

I became certified to teach hatha yoga and began to experience more fully the beauty and power of the body/spirit union. For me the timing was perfect. After almost 15 years of teaching scientific writing at the University of Colorado, I had just resigned to “follow my heart,” even though I didn’t yet know what that meant.

Soon thereafter, I continued my training and became certified in YogaDance and Yoga Nidra. Together the movement of YogaDance and the stillness of Yoga Nidra have deepened my experience and awareness of the yogic union. They have given me a gentle yet energizing way to open myself emotionally and connect with my body and spirit.

Now as I work with students in traditional hatha yoga, Yoga Nidra and YogaDance classes, my goal is to help them listen to their own bodies and spirits so that they develop an awareness of the subtle energies that movement and stillness evoke.

I am certified in the Shambhava Style of Yoga, Yoga Nidra and Kripalu YogaDance. I am also a member of Yoga Alliance, Yoga Teachers of Colorado and the Kripalu Yoga and YogaDance Teachers Associations.
